Wild Women Stitchers Provide Warmth & Comfort

16 Dog Pads Finished

The Wild Women Stitchers neighborhood group has worked for the past 3 months on learning to make dog bed pads to give warmth and comfort to our furry friends at the animal shelter. It was one of the items listed by BARC as needed to help the animals as they await adoption. Because of the generosity of community donors to our ASG Houston stash, we started with an abundant supply of high quality upholstery fabrics in an array of colors. There was even a sampling of tan suede cloth and some black velvet from drapery that was repurposed. We also repurposed batting from donated comforters to use as the cushioning and sandwiched the layers together with a serged edge finish folder over to serve as the binding edge. The day of assembly was quite the event with much talking and laughter and we even learned a few new tricks in how to use sergers. There were resident guests at our host venue (The Ballard House) who learned to use a serger and sewing machine at the event. They are totally hooked on sewing now!
