June 9th we will be working on crazy quilts. There is more than one way to do a crazy quilt. I will teach 2 of my favorite methods. The easiest way is to cut a variety of matching colors of fabric 2 ½” wide; probably 5 to 9 inches long. Or use a Jelly Roll.
Supplies:
- Fabric pieces or scraps, pre ironed
- You will also need one larger piece of fabric that is about 5 x 5 or 6 x 6 inches. I plan to use a photo for this main piece.
- Scissors
- Matching thread. I like to use embroidery thread as it has a shine (I will bring)
- Size 12 sharp or universal needle works well
- Plain colored fabric cut 13” x 13” for base. Might want to bring a few if time permits to make more than 1 square. You may want to make a quilt, a lap blanket, or a runner. I plan to frame some for-wall decoration. (batting is also fine for base)
- Lace, ribbon, rick rack is fun to include; also, small decorative pins.
- Some of you may have printed off a picture or photograph to include. Maybe more than one
- You might like to practice decorative stitches. Make them wider or longer
- Sewing machine, cords, sewing supplies
Bring your finished fabric bookmarks if you made some for our community service project.
Bring your wonderful show and tell projects also.
