What is the CAB?
The Chapter Advisory Board (CAB) is the governing body of as ASG chapter. Is is responsible for managing the chapter’s business, property, and affairs in accordance with the ASG By-Laws, the Certificate of Incorporation, the Chapter Charter or Letter of Agreement, the Policies and Procedures Manual for ASG Chapters, and any standing rules by the chapter.
CAB Membership
- The CAB shall have an odd number of members and shall have no fewer than three (3) members consisting of the president, the secretary and the treasurer. These three (3) positions are elected at the chapter Annual Meeting.
- If desired, vice presidents may also be elected to the CAB. Elections of a 1st and 2nd vice president will insure and odd number of CAB members.
- Additional appointed CAB positions with assigned responsibilities are chosen as needed but an odd number of CAB members must be maintained.
- Committee chairs can be appointed CAB members is desired.
- Elected and appointed CAB members have voting previleges and responsibilities.
Officer Responsbilities
President –
This person serves as the official representative and presiding officer of the chapter and has the overall responsibility to keep it running efficiently and effectively for the good of all chapter members and the ASG organization. Some of the responsibilities include:
- Act as the primary link between the chapter, ASG national headquarters, and other chapters.
- Preside at all chapter meetings and CAB meetings.
- Writing a column for each issue of the newsletter. Proofreading and giving final approval to the chapter’s newsletters, chapter website, and publicity.
- Attend the ASG national conference, if possible. Cast the corporate vote for the chapter
First VP –
The responsibilities MAY include:
- Working closely with the president on all chapter matters
- Being in line to succeed the chapter president
- Being a signatory on chapter bank accounts
- Committee chair position as needed
Second VP –
The responsibilities MAY include:
- Working closely with the rest of the CAB on all chapter matters.
- Being a signatory on chapter bank accounts
- Being a signatory on chapter bank accounts
- Assuming one of the following four committee chair positions: Education (Program) chair, Membership chair, Newsletter Editor, Special Events chair.
Treasurer –
Some of The responsibilities of a chapter treasurer are the following:
- Serve as the financial officer of the chapter.
- Handle all CAB/Banking Information; hold all funds
- Work with neighborhood/special interest group leaders on any events involving money or petty cash.
Secretary –
- Some of The responsibilities of a chapter Secretary are the following:
- Keep the records of the minutes of CAB meetings and the chapter Annual Meeting
- Respond to all correspondence received by the chapter as directed by the CAB.
CAB Committees
CAB chairs should form committees to complete their work and to also train successors for that position. Committees may have members chosen both from the membership at large and other CAB members. At large Committee members are not voting members of the CAB.
ASG Houston chapter Committee Opportunities!
The ASG Houston chapter has several chair committee positions available for members at large. Also, volunteers are needed to help with committee responsibilities. Anyone interested in filling or assisting with chair responsibilities, please contact the webmaster and indicate your interest. An abbreviated list of chair positions is provided here. See Policy and Procedures for full descriptions.
- Education (Program) Chair – Charged with bringing opportunities to chapter members for learning more about sewing and for increasing their sewing skills.
- Newsletter Editor – Publish four (4) newsletters per year. Coordinate newsletter schedule to accommodate the election process and major chapter events.
- Community Service Chair – Propose and plan community service projects for the chapter. Plan and support projects at the NG level.
- Hospitality Chair – Make all members feel part of the chapter. Provide refreshments and decorations at chapter events.
- Stash Sale – Organize and manage stash fabric and coordinate stash sale activities.
