This next week we are going to make a striped pieced shirt.  You will need 2 or more coordinating fabrics. The sizing is according to your hip size.  Cut strips 3’’ by 45” or the width of your fabric.

You will need:

7 strips- hips 34’’ to 37’’

8 strips  hips 38’’ – 42’’

9 strips  hips 43’’-48’’

10 strips hips 49’’ – 55’’

11 strips hips 56” – 61”

12 strips hips 62” – 68”

Divide the strips up between how many fabrics you use.  I’m using 2 colors so I cut 4 of one and 5 of the other. You will also need to cut:

2 strips 3’’ by 36” yoke bottom

2 strips 5” X 36’’ yoke top

2 strips 3.5’’ X 20’’ sleeve band

1 strip 1.25’’ X 25’’ neck band

You will need thread to match or contrasting thread.

You can sew this together with a flatlock stitch on a serger using decorative thread or with a regular sewing machine and then go over the seams with a decorative stitch. Most sergers will do a flatlock stitch using these setting tension N 1.75 UL 3.25 LL 4 Stitch width 6 and length 3.  These are the settings I use on my old Brother serger machine. Please play around with your machine at home. It took me awhile to come up with these settings. You then pull HARD on the seam to open it up. It should lay very flat. One side will be the regular serger stitch the other side a ladder stitch.

All in all, you need 1.25-2 yards of 2 or more fabrics.

The pattern calls for rayon, Batik or any lightweight fabric that drapes fairly well.

Thanks Priscilla
